Item Building climate change resilience through the university education(Видавничий дім «Гельветика», 2023) Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Радомська, Маргарита МирославівнаThe climate changes are inevitable part of the upcoming future; therefore it is necessary to address corresponding issues in education of children and adults. The paper presents the overview of the implementation of CCE in university education in and outside Ukraine. The commitments of the majority of countries to implement CCE in the curriculum at different levels hasn’t been fulfilled completely yet. Even the majority of European countries have only elements of CCE at the level of school training, as it was shown by the global survey across 46 UNESCO Member States. The university degrees, offered at Master level on the West include some elements of climate change issues included in training, but only 11,5% has direct relation to them as it was shown by our study. In Ukraine only tree Master degrees, indicating relation to climate changes, were offered in previous years and this demonstrates lack of attention to the development of adaptation potential among future professionals. Since there is no branch of human activity, which will not experience effect of climate changes, we consider implementation of special course in higher education a necessary response to provide graduates with specific adaptation skills. The experience of teaching the course “Adaptation to Climate Changes” is presented in the paper. The survey conducted among the students of the university has showed considerable gaps in the understanding of climate change implications for their personal and professional life and fragmented awareness of the adaptation approaches and the benefits adaptation offer. It is finally recommended to introduce similar course as elective to provide high quality of skills and competencies of future specialist, forced to life and work in challenging environment with changing climate.Item Current challenges in environmental education: case study of human-induced landscapes dynamics(Lviv Polytechnic National University, 2022-12) Dudar, Tamara Viktorivna; Saienko, Tetiana Vasylivna; Matvieieva, Iryna Valeriivna; Groza, Valentyna Anatoliivna; Karpenko, Tetiana Volodymyrivna; Kozlova, Anna Oleksandrivna; Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Savytskkij, Volodymyr Dmytrovych; Yavniuk, Andrian Andrianovych; The purpose of the article is to present the research results on the landscape changes dynamics in the frame of the Educational and Professional Program “Ecology and Environmental Protection” developed at the Department of Environmental Sciences at National Aviation University. The noosphere paradigm as the most integral bio-adequate basis of the interaction between the society and ambient environment under conditions of present-day challenges is highlighted. The advantages of education in English are emphasized in terms of the abundance of primary educational sources to tackle environmental challenges especially connected with the warfare activities in the country. Digital technologies and remote sensing development within the framework of the educational and professional program provide students, in particular, with the opportunity to perform landscape changes assessment due to long-term anthropogenic stress. The example of the border region landscapes of the Novgorod-Siverskyi Polissia is considered.Item Economic valuation of ecosystem services of natural plant associations of the Pluzhne forestry(ТОВ «Видавництво «Юстон», 2023) Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Tykhenko, Oksana Mykolaivna; Nazarkov, Тaras Ihorovych; Радомська, Маргарита Мирославівна; Тихенко, Оксана Миколаївна; Назарков, Тарас ІгоровичEcosystem services are the basis of human development and existence. The resilience and balance of ecosystems is the key to the well-being and comfort of the human race, but their role and value of services provided is often underestimated. The aim of the given research is to conduct economic assessment of ecosystem services of natural plant associations of the selected area – Pluzhne forestry. Forests are known to provide the most diverse and comprehensive complex of ecosystem services and thus represent complicated object for assessment. The first step of the assessment included formulation of the list of ecosystem services to be included into the assessment procedure, giving priority to the most well-studied. The second step was aimed at determination of the unit prices for the chosen services. They were elaborated based on similar valuations, sufficiently supported by research data. The resulted cost of ecosystem services provided were compared to the assessments, performed for forest ecosystems in Ukraine and European countries, which is an element of novelty and originality. Although there are noticeable deviations in specific value of ecosystem services per unit of forest area, the general trend in consistent with European experience. The reasons of differences could be explained by the choice of approaches to unit prices evaluation and list of services included into assessment. The obtained data are important for raising awareness of local population and authorities about the importance of ecosystems functioning and need to invest resources in their support and protection. Research works of such kind are still rare in Ukrainian academic sphere despite their high importance for efficient management of environment quality and use. Thus, there is a clear need develop this research field and the given research contributes theoretical and applied provisions for further assessments of such kindItem Innovation and digitalization in environmental education: the case study of climate change adaptation and analysis of land surface temperature(Dnipro National University named after Oles Honchar, 2024-01-01) Dudar, Tamara Viktorivna; Saienko, Tetiana Vasylivna; Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Lubsky, Mykola Serhiovych; Yavniuk, Andrian Andrianovych; Rozhko, Vitaliy Valer'yanovych; The purpose of the article is to present the research results on the land surface temperature change in the frame of the Edu- cational and Professional Program «Ecology and Environmental Protection» developed at the Department of Environmental Sciences at National Aviation University, where the importance of the development of education in the noosphere paradigm is emphasized, as the most integral bio-adequate basis for the interaction of society and the environment in the conditions of today’s challenges. The climate’s change and the land surface temperature, as an integral part of it, are highlighted to tackle the environmental challenges in- cluding those connected with the warfare activities in the country. Development of the remote sensing technique within the framework of the Educational and Professional Program provides students with the opportunity to perform the environment changes assessment due to long-term anthropogenic stress, and also acquire knowledge and skills from the new course of «Adaptation to Climate Change», introduced to strengthen the ability to survive and effectively work and study in conditions of global climate change. The land sur- face temperature assessment is considered on the examples of the highly technologically loaded areas within the central part of the Ukrainian Shield, in particular the mining area and thermal power plant. Land surface temperature is one of the key features that could represent environmental changes caused by anthropogenic influence, for example, urbanization. It makes land surface temperature an appropriate Earth’s attribute that combines remote sensing and environmental sciences in the sense of environmental education. It is clear, that its influence on environment is intuitive for students and it could be represented using geoinformation systems. Land surface estimation is still a challenging task for non-specialists but its ecological significance makes land temperature mapping useful and important in environmental education.Item Multinominal bioindication for the evaluation of urban environment condition – case study of the city of Kherson(Ukrainian National Forestry University., 2020-11-03) Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Husieva, Alina Vitaliyivna; Horobtsov, Inokentiy Vladyslavovych; The urban environment is one of the most complicated man made systems, which condition and status are hard to define, but it is essential for the survival of humans. Among the methods of the urban environment condition evaluation bioindication is one of the most simple and able to provide valuable dose-response information for efficient management of environmental safety. Being such a useful method, the bioindication has a range of disadvantages, due to dependence on single species response, which can lie within the acceptable amplitude of living fluctuations or is conditioned by factors other than human activity. Most of the researches of such type stick to one single species and attempt to build clear impact-response dependencies for specific conditions. The paper considers the possibility to combine bioindicators from different taxonomic groups in one study to receive more reliable vision of the environment status. The typical combination offered in the study is phytoindication and lichen indication, which relies on measuring plants morphological parameters and lichen diversity and distribution. The research was conducted in the city of Kherson, previously considered relatively unpolluted. The territory of the city was analyzed to define the most affecting sources of environment pollution. The background area was chosen to verify the changes in the parameters of bioindicators. The results showed that the level of anthropogenic pressure within the urban territory is considerable and demands mitigation actions, aimed at improvement of air pollution control, waste management, traffic organization and implementation of remediation activities at decommissioned facilities. The deviations between the results of lichen indication and phytoindication gave possibility to infer the possible sources and composition of pollution, thus providing basis for efficient environment protection solutions to be implemented. The paper also presents the recommendations on the combination of bioindicators to be used in various studies, depending on the purpose and type of the ecosystem under investigation. The sequence of the data processing must include the comparative analysis of the information obtained to use the differences between the results provided by different organisms for clarification of the human impacts parameters.Item Multinominal bioindication for the evaluation of urban environment condition – case study of the city of Kherson(Ukrainian National Forestry University., 2020-11-03) Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Husieva, Alina Vitaliyivna; Horobtsov, Inokentiy Vladyslavovych; The urban environment is one of the most complicated man made systems, which condition and status are hard to define, but it is essential for the survival of humans. Kyiv is a capital city with large population and vast area, which faces different challenges imposed by changing climate. The analysis of climate models demonstrates vulnerability of Kyiv urban infrastructure to heat waves, urban heat island, increasing precipitations and negative weather phenomena. The research was conducted for the Osokorky district of Kyiv to determine its problem points and evaluate the resilience of infrastructure. The results of analysis show that in spite of novelty of the district it lacks sustainability components, has poorly developed green and blue infrastructure, as well as inefficient road network. All these factors combined with dense construction create favorable conditions for the thermal pressure at local population and other biotic components of the district. The suggested approach to the adaptation of Osokorky district to climate changes is through the implementation of nature-based solutions with the aim to expand green infrastructure and increase the volume of ecosystem services provided by urban plants. The green roofs design was developed for 15 sites around the district, based on their location and favorable technical conditions. The economic costs of the project were estimated and the payback period based on the value of ecosystem services provided was defined. In order to strengthen the resilience of the district a complex of additional organizational measures is necessary to support the progress towards safe urban environment.Item Protection of avifauna for the provision of the Kyiv urban ecosystem stability(Ukrainian National Forestry University., 2019-04-25) Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Horobtsov, Inokentiy Vladyslavovych; The transformation of ecosystems at urban territories imposes serious threats to the well-being of its inhabitants, both human and non-human. Modern cities represent a random combination of natural and technogenic landscapes, which often have no connections, and therefore are not able to support animal populations. However, the stability of such clustered ecosystem is impossible without the provision of stable flow of energy and matter ensured by living organisms. Being vulnerable to the negative factors of the urban environment, animals are also able to reflect its condition, so by contributing to the diversity of urban fauna it is possible to increase the overall quality of living conditions in a city. However, animals in cities are represented by insects, rodents, domesticated animals and single ubiquist organism, which either cannot be monitored, form real populations or are not desired. Therefore birds are considered to be that part of zoocenosis, which are worth investing efforts in support and development. The research has been conducted to study the avifauna of Kyiv City and major threats to its diversity and populations. The major risks for birds at the territory of Kyiv are formed by the fragmentation of natural landscapes, introduction of new species, pollution of the environment, waste accumulation and physical factors of pollution, namely light and noise. In order to provide the conservation of existing bird associations it is offered to unite a chain of landscapes, joined by close location, well preserved phytocoenosis and favourable conditions for birds' living activity, into protected objects with corresponding legal status. The fundamental element of the future protected areas is chosen to be water bodies of the city. The analysis of suitable and available areas has output a structure of 4 cores, based on lakes of Svytoshynsky, Osokorky, Obolon and Desnyansky districts of Kyiv. They all possess the necessary feature to apply for protected status and are already habitats of urban avifauna. The success of this initiative should be supported by the creation of single management body for all protected areas of Kyiv. The investments in the implementation of the project are estimated and cover organizational and technical actions.Item Sustainable development of the urban agglomeration through the creation of an urban network of protected areas: case study of Kyiv city urban ecosystem(Studia Periegetica., 2018-12-30) Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Cherniak, Larysa Mykolayivna; Horobtsov, Inokentiy Vladyslavovych; Kolotylo, Oleksandra Anatoliyivna; The need for improvement of the environment quality at the territory of cities is directly conditioned by its impact on the health of humans. At the same time humans are not the only residents of urban ecosystems, but they are also inhabited by other organisms, using city as their habitat. The growth of cities is a stable trend of the modern times and it comes into conflict with wildlife living activity and quality of environment. Sustainable development of cities is impossible without environment protection, economic progress and benefits for local communities, therefore the creation of protected areas groups within the city of Kyiv is offered as an instrument for biodiversity support and urban ecosystem stabilization. The most important requirements to the sites to be included into the system of protected areas have been formulated. The first two cores are developed based on small lakes, which are characterized with environmental, recreational and wildlife support potential. The benefits from the creation of the urban network of protected areas have been defined for urban ecosystem and social and economic situation in the city.Item The analysis of airports' physical factors impacts on wildlife(Ukrainian National Forestry University., 2021-04-29) Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Horobtsov, Inokentiy Vladyslavovych; Cherniak, Larysa Mykolayivna; Tykhenko, Oksana Mykolayivna; The impacts of manmade structures on wildlife are often underestimated due to misbelieve that wild animals avoid living in close proximity to any kind of technogenic object. However, such objects may offer a range of benefits to animals and thus become points of attraction, being still a source of hazards for these living organisms. The airports are considered to be dangerous industrial facilities for they create chemical and physical pollution, as well as host a variety of biohazards, originating from transported items and dense groups of population. Meanwhile they are often located outside the urban areas in previously pristine areas, specially allocated for this purpose and animals, whose habitat they occupy undergo all these impacts equally with passengers and staff. The aim of the research is to conduct differential analysis of physical factors of influence within the airport impact area and evaluate the negative trends for exposed animals. The physical factors were divided into the physical objects and physical fields. The assessment of these factors was based on the data obtained using special metering equipment for measuring the level of noise, light and electro-magnetic pollution, while the intensity of visual pollution and fragmentation effects by airport infrastructure were evaluated using qualitative approach. The airport facilities itself and ground access infrastructure are showed as the causes of habitat destruction by barrier and edge effects, as well as structural transformations of landscapes, in particular, relief and phytocenosis. The impact of physical fields coming from the airport territory is formed by light, vibration and electro-magnetic pollution. The intensity of considered factors is different, but the sensitivity of laboratory animals to these factors is high enough to cause a range of effects. However, the methods for mitigation of some other airport impacts can exacerbate the value of the existing sources of impacts. The light pollution is measured and defined as the most significant and damaging. Thus, there is a clear need to pay attention to the interactions between an airport and wildlife to reduce the intensity of negative effects. The predicted and described effects for wildlife could be very diverse, but they need verification by field surveys in the impacts areas of airports is highlighted.Item The analytical approach to ornithological collision risk assessment (the example of the «Boryspil» international airport)(Ukrainian National Forestry University., 2021-06) Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Horobtsov, Inokentiy Vladyslavovych; Cherniak, Larysa Mykolayivna; The paper considers issues of interaction between aviation and avifauna, relevant in terms of flight safety and safety of habitats for birds living in the impact area of airports. A number of parameters of aircraft and air traffic flow significantly affect the behavior and diversity of birds living in the respective areas. The analysis showed that species composition of avifauna at airports includes very few fully synanthropic species, while semi-synanthropes, such as members of the family Corvidae, are often found in airport areas and, due to their size and behavior, are of major hazard to aircrafts. A variety of methods for assessing the level of ornithological hazard are proposed by researchers and used in some countries. The authors presented a matrix method for assessing the risk of collisions between birds and aircraft, adapted to the conditions of Ukrainian airports. In particular, this method takes into account the peculiarities of avifauna monitoring carried out at the airports of Ukraine and the range of data on birds that may be available at these enterprises. The proposed analytical approach to ornithological risk assessment and ornithological management was tested on the example of Boryspil Airport, for which the attractiveness of the territory for birds, focal species of birds that need the most attention during ornithological observations by the airport staff, and the risk level were determined. It is necessary to expand the list of indicators according to which data should be collected during routine ornithological monitoring of airports.Item The assessment of environmental and medical consequences of the atmosphere pollution with petroleum products(Lviv State University of Life Safety., 2018-06-11) Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Horobtsov, Inokentiy Vladyslavovych; The article deals with the dependence between atmospheric air pollution, resulted by the activity of fuel filling stations, and the morbidity of the population at the adjacent areas. The major human health consequences, arising from the inhalation of volatile components of commercial petroleum products, have been analyzed. It has been established that the content of petroleum products in the atmosphere in the zone of fuel filling stations in-fluence exceeds the maximum permissible and corresponding background values. With the help of mathematical analysis it is determined that at these territories the risk for the population to get diseased with respiratory forms of allergy, asthma and chronic respiratory system disorders is higher, as compared with the territories outside the influence of fuel filling stations.Item The assessment of the Kyiv urban ecotopes comfort as a birds' habitat(Ukrainian National Forestry University., 2019-10-31) Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Horobtsov, Inokentiy Vladyslavovych; Mushta, Maryna Andriyivna; The city is one of the most specific ecosystems of the modern biosphere. The combination of natural and artificial components and elements of the city have made it a complex system of ecotopes with various levels of anthropogenic transformation. Still the structure of urban ecosystems includes some patches of undisturbed or minimally disturbed landscapes, which may be considered the home for the most abundant part of urban biocenosis – the urban avifauna. Therefore, in this research the concept and features of urban zoocenosis in specific application to avifauna of the Kyiv urban system have been considered. A modern city if found to offer a range of benefits for birds, including food, shelter, and higher temperatures over the year and lower predator pressure and competition. However, the level of food quality as well as the condition of environment components are low and impose real health threats. Physical pollution, in particular noise and electro-magnetic impacts are also serious disturbing factors. Considering these factors, the ecotopes most suitable for birds have been defined among the parks, forests, lakes and cemeteries of the city – total 59 objects. In order to assess their comfort for birds, the specific ranking scale has been developed. The parameters taken into consideration in the course of assessment are as follows: general spatial characteristics (size and fragmentation of the territory), vegetation quality (covered territory, height and age of trees), forage availability and diversity, hydrographic situation (access to water bodies), environment quality (level of water and air pollution, noise pollution, non-organic wastes directly at the site), human pressure (density of people moving, area with artificial covers, level of anthropization), bird supporting elements and activity, and also predation pressure. According to the obtained result the forests around and its residuals inside Kyiv are the least transformed and consequently the most comfortable for the support of birds diversity. They are followed by cultivated semi-natural areas, which comfort declines as the levels of recreational pressure, human presence and proximity to the city center increases. Finally, the last in the list are small parks or cemeteries, cut off from water bodies or water bodies lacking dense vegetation. An important issue, showed by personal visual observations, is that the activity of humans aimed at support of birds communities within area of any status is proved to be more important as compared to obvious disadvantages seen at certain areas.Item Vulnerability and adaptation of protected areas to climate changes: case study of national natural parks in Ukraine(Редакційно-видавничий центр Національного лісотехнічного університету України, 2022) Radomska, Marharyta Myroslavivna; Huz, Valerii Volodymyrovych; Yarokhmedova, Ivanna Vitaliivna; Радомська, Маргарита Мирославівна; Гузь, Валерій Володимирович; Ярохмедова, Іванна ВіталіївнаThe observed trends of climate changes are strong enough to affect the living process in natural communities. Protected areas are at the front edge of these impacts and the action plans to build up the resilience of these valuable natural objects is of high importance and urgency. This paper deals with the assessment of vulnerability and progress of National Natural Parks of Ukraine towards adaptation of their ecosystems to growing pressure of climate change. The vulnerability of the National Natural Parks to the effects of climate changes depends on their sensitivity, formed due to intrinsic attributes, like level of endemism and specific microclimate conditions at certain area. From the other side, some managerial solutions framed into the action plan for assisted adaptation of protected areas to changing climate is also the factor of vulnerability. The assessment undertaken in the given paper addresses both components. At the first stage, the signs of climate changes at 51 parks of Ukraine (excluding those created less than 5 years ago) were studied based on the data from open sources, reports to the authorities and personal feedbacks from the staff. Then these data were summarized in terms of natural zones and generalized to define the most profound effects observed. Finally, the information about the presence and implementation of adaptation measures in the National Natural Parks was collected and evaluated as contributor to building adaptation capacity of the sites. Sensitivity and adaptation potential were rated using standard scale and the level of vulnerability was assigned to each park. The results showed varied level of vulnerability with the natural parks of the Steppe and Ukrainian Carpathians region demonstrating the highest levels. The research has also revealed generally low level of attention to the issues of climate changes on the whole and adaptation strategies implementation in particular in the activity of the National Natural Parks. However, some of the objects have already entered succession processes and diversity transformations. The most well studied issue is invasions, which are also the most covered by the countermeasures. The conclusion is that the action plans for adaptation of protected areas should be provided for such objects, since they are at the frontier of climate problems.
