Abstract

Polysemy‘s degree constitutes a challenging lexicographic problem both in theory and practice of translation. While an extremely detailed lexicographic entry turns out to be useful for scientific and technical purposes, in bilingual dictionaries, where the meanings correlate with target language lexemes, a wider specification should concern those senses which are rendered in different ways, particularly, the cases of a high risk of derivative interference. Meanings separation in bilingual dictionaries must be founded on the practice of translation rather than etymological features and might depend on directionality of translation. Translators might also need different connotatively marked translations in an entry within the same meaning
