Item EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF LOW-TEMPERATURE PROPERTIES OF ALTERNATIVE AVIATION FUELS(Proceedings of the 21th Conference for Junior Researchers ‘Science – Future of Lithuania’, 2018) Yakovlieva, Anna; Boshkov, VasilyiThe work is devoted to the investigation of low-temperature properties of alternative jet fuels mixed with bio-additives derived from rapeseed oil, methanol and ethanol. For the scope of this work modification of conventional jet fuel with bio-additives derived from rapeseed oil, methanol and ethanol were chosen to develop alternative jet fuels. The main low-temperature characteristics – freez-ing point and pour point of conventional jet fuel and three types of bio-additives were identified and compared with the requirements to conventional Jet A-1 fuel. The influence of bio-additives derived from rapeseed oil, methanol and ethanol on low-temperature characteristics of new jet fuels has been studied and explained. The necessity of studying new technologies is grounded. Mathematical depend-encies of freezing point and viscosity of alternative fuels on bio-additives content were proposedItem Fundamentals of Chemmotology(National Aviation University, 2019) Boichenko, Sergii; Yakovlieva, Anna; Vovk, Oksana; Radomska, Margaryta; Cherniak, Larysa; Shkilniuk, IrynaThe manual presents a modern interpretation of Chemmotology science, its role in development of technology and society. It shows that development and promotion of alternative fuels and Chemmotology problems solving are impossible without systematic approach. In addition, having both theoretical part and practical application, Chemmotology science ensures energy and environmental security of the country's economy, rational use of traditional and alternative fuels and lubricants in operation of advanced modern equipment. The manual focuses on the fact that in recent years one of the most important issues has been the ecological constituent of Chemmotology science, which is aimed at ultra-minimization of negative impact of fuel lubricants and technical liquids on ecosystems. It is well-known that transport sector is an important component of the economy that have an impact on the development and prosperity of the population. Efficiency, reliability of operation of transport, rational use of operating materials depends on their correct selection. According to its quality performance materials must conform to both the model and operating conditions of transport means. The use of poor quality fuels and lubricants leads to a decrease in the durability and reliability of machinery and machine parts; the use of materials of higher quality than required causes unreasonable increase in costs. Thus, knowledge of the range of fuels and lubricants, its functional purpose, operational properties allow using them correctly and efficiently. The authors tried to integrate and systematize in the presented manual the knowledge of many experts from different countries to characterize main trends in the development of conventional and alternative fuels and lubricants, its modern assortment and tendencies in development.Item Modification of jet fuels composition with renewable bio-additives(National aviation university, 2019) Yakovlieva, Anna; Boichenko, Sergii; Lejda, Kazimierz; Vovk, OksanaThe study is devoted to developing of alternative jet fuel by means of blending conventional jet fuel with plant-derived bio-additives and studying properties of new alternative jet fuels. The review and systematization of the variety and classification of jet fuels used all over the world was done. The technologies of jet fuels production from various non-renewable energy sources are discussed. Factors, which stipulate development and implementation of alternative jet fuels were shown: limitation of crude-oil deposits, decreasing of its energy efficiency, global warming that is intensified by processes of extraction, processing and use of fuels and exhaust gases that negatively affect atmosphere. Perspective technologies and feedstock for alternative jet fuels production were analyzed, as well as advantages and disadvantages of each of them. Fundamentals of jet engine operation and exploitation are considered within this study. It was discussed how jet fuels quality and composition may affect the life span, reliability and durability of jet engines. The method for bio-additives production from rapeseed oil and camelina oil fatty acids esters was developed. High quality bio-additives based on FAME and FAEE of rapeseed and camelina oil were used for blending with conventional jet fuels. In the result of experimental studies the comparative characteristics of physical-chemical and exploitation properties of new alternative jet was developed. The properties of new jet fuels were considered for satisfying requirements of standards for fuels of grade Jet A-1. It was shown that maximal content of bio-additives in blended jet fuels is 30 %. In the result of bench tests it was concluded that operational parameters of the jet engine powered with new blended jet fuels completely satisfy exploitation norms, which are set in specification for tested jet engine, may be used as a working body of the jet engine and do not require its design changes. In the result of emissions evaluation it was concluded that blending conventional jet fuels with bio-additives allows improving its environmental properties: decreasing amounts of CO2, H2O, SO2 and NOx emissions in jet engine exhaust gases. The results of the study will contribute to reducing the energy dependence of air transport, improve its environmental friendliness and will promote improvement of the sustainability and safety of modern civil aviation.
